DJ Reelax
Ten years ago Ryan Wilson began pushing the cooler underground sounds of dance music to ‘clued up’ kids in South Australia via cult dance music store Central Station Records. Ryan quickly rose to become one of South Australia’s most prominent DJs and under the guise of DJ Reelax, became a presence in Adelaide’s premium club nights including iconic nightspots: Q Bar, Garage, Heaven and Cargo.
As a DJ, Reelax draws influence across genres – from warped techno grooves and spine tingling washes of synth magic to sexy, soulful, pumping house and shape shifting electronica. Reelax’s ability to tease and tickle a crowd and deliver deep and diverse sounds has not only enabled him to be consistently booked locally (with approximately 200 gigs a year) but has earned him the title of ‘South Australian DJ of the Year’ for three years running.
In recent years Reelax has been the resident DJ at one of Adelaide’s most successful Friday nights ‘onelove’. From its inception 3 years ago through to its recent end, Reelax ably supported many an international DJ including: Mr Oizo, Felix Da Housecat, Bart B More, Riva Starr, Juan Kidd, Dirty South, Junior Sanchez and DJ Falcon to name but a few.
Since 2007, Reelax has also held the title of ‘Music Director’ at one of Australia’s only twenty-four hour dance music radio stations ‘Fresh 92.7.’ As part of his role Reelax produced ‘Fresh FM Volume 9’ which went on to become the highest ever selling album in CSR / MRA’s history for its territory.
On an international level, Reelax’s profile continues to grow having been invited to play at the ‘Clevelander Hotel’s Pool Party’ with Steven Lee (of Lee Cabrera fame) and at the ‘2006 Miami Winter Music Conference.’ Reelax also played at the ‘Shangri-La’s’ 5th Birthday Celebrations in Beijing in 2008 and currently enjoys a residency at the internationally acclaimed club, 360° in Dubai (which was recently voted one of the world’s Top 100 clubs by critically acclaimed dance music magazine, ‘DJ Mag’). Amongst all of this international travel Reelax has also managed to squeeze in many a gig at some of Australia’s biggest music festivals including: Future Music Festival, We Love Sounds, Stereosonic and Summerdayze.
Reelax's style, creativity, dedication and commitment to dance music has seen him develop from ‘novice’ to ‘master’ in a very short space of time. Although reelax-ed by name he is certainly not by nature and Reelax’s willingness to give ore, learn more and hone his craft will only see his star continue to rise.
