Tribal Kings
What originally started out as a bit of a jam session between a DJ (who is an ex-drummer), another DJ (who is an ex-singer) and one of Australia’s most notable drummer/percussionists, has now become an extraordinary collaboration known as the ‘Tribal Kings’ aka Mark Pellegrini, Michael T & Jason Heerah. Playing together at some of Melbourne’s leading ‘house music’ parties, the 3 formed not only a musical bond but also an electric connection on stage.
Mark & Michael T are no strangers to the Melbourne music industry. Having DJ’d for over 20 years at some of Melbourne’s premier nights, not to mention being promoters at some of the biggest venues in town. Including current hot spots: ‘Beach Club’ and ‘Platform 1.’ In 2005, Mark started the successful night: ‘Infusion’ Saturday nights @ ‘Platform 1,’ which is still proving to be one of Melbourne’s best house nights. As a DJ, Mark has played alongside industry heavyweights such as: Jay-J, Julius Knight, Jeremy Healy, Yousef, Groove Junkies and Syke ‘n’ Sugarstarr. Not to mention his gig during the Summer 08 season at Paradise Club, Mykonos (alongside Tony Humphries).
Mark Pellegrini juggles being a businessman, entrepreneur, promoter and performer and has started his own label: ‘Rocksteady Recordings.’ He has formed a partnership with ‘Vicious’ and he can also lay claim to fame, for his remix/production of the ‘Tribal Kings’ ARIA Club Chart Top 10 hit: ‘Canto Della Liberta’.
Jason Heerah Drummer / Percussionist / Vocalist / Producer aka MUSICIAN! In the year 2000, Jason won Australia’s ‘Best Up & Coming Drummer’ competition. He also featured in the top 20 new millennium players article from Australia’s leading drum magazine: ‘Drum Scene.’ Touring with the likes of Disco Montego, Guy Sebastian & Anthony Callea, Jason managed to work alongside artist’s such as:
Richard Clapton, Gary Pinto, Andrew D’silva (C.D.B), Jeremy Gregory, Jade Macrae, Daniel Merriweather, The Pussycat Dolls, Tina Cousins, Craig David, Rhianna, Nelly Furtado and many more. Jason also lent his vocals to the current ARIA Club Chart hit: ‘Happiness’ – TV Rock & Luke Chable.
The ‘Tribal Kings’ show is pedal to the metal, dance entertainment from the first record played. From the initial drum beat hit by Jason, right throughout their whole set, it is a non-stop rhythmic blend of Latino rhythms, African beats and even some tough Vocal House and Electro grooves. Also thrown into the mix is Jason’s amazing vocals, which fully compliments his percussion set.
The Tribal Kings have three obvious things in common: their love of music, the beats and rhythms (combined with their musical back grounds) and their love for what they do, is totally evident with every performance. Stay tuned for the next Tribal Kings release & performances around Australia.
